On a side-note, has anyone tried out the Dragon Age pen-and-paper game? I've read the basic rules and it sounds kind of fun but I've never ran a session. I can simply see how this would appeal to lots of people and could be a very smart business move for EA/BioWare if handled well. I say this as someone who vastly prefers single-player RPGs most of the time. Other than the inherent drawbacks with MMOs-which I'll lament elsewhere-building on the hybrid of SWTOR and DAI could actually be pretty cool. and each has their own "campaign" to play through-could work really well for multiple class/race combinations in Dragon Age Online, actually expanding on the way Dragon Age: Origins handled its various stories. I also imagine that using the multi-story-line model that Star Wars: The Old Republic uses-play as Jedi Knight or Imperial Agent, etc. A free-or-subscribe model like SWTOR would likely work really well. This skill based approach allows lower levelled players to take on higher levelled monsters (PvE) or other players (PvP) and still stand a chance provided they have a high amount of skill. Even in the crowded MMO market, there's room for big-name brands. Dragon Nest stands apart from other MMO games in the genre by offering a hands on combat system that gives players more control over their character. It's the perfect template for a Dragon Age MMO. The whole game feels a bit like Guild Wars 2 without all the other people, and with three companions in tow. Fans are widely praising the game as well, though its MMO-ish design has turned off some.Įven the multiplayer plays like an MMO dungeon crawl. Then again, SWTOR in its free-to-play form isn't doing badly, and Inquisition has been a major victory in terms of critical reception. Is it possible the studio could take what it's learned from SWTOR and mix that with the template they've built for DA:I and build an online game set in the Dragon Age? It certainly makes sense, though one wonders if publisher EA would be willing to make yet another huge financial investment and take another big risk on BioWare or on any new MMO, for that matter. Star Wars: The Old Republic is one of the most successful MMOs out right now, and it blends BioWare's more story and character-driven approach with the theme park style MMO design we're all familiar with.

It looks like its going to be a buy to play on release which given the free nature of the two monster Mobas (Dota2 and League of legends) this is going to be a tough sell.Īs well as WoW I have been teaming up with my normal gaming buddy to return into Final Fantasy 14, given the problems I had with my account I decided to pickup a new steam copy during the summer sale and got gifted from Simcha the Heavensward expansion.BioWare is no stranger to MMO design, of course. I get that having uber healing wouldn’t work but I think the dial is set too low for the support classes to make them enjoyable or impact in a game.Įven the hardest support character felt underwhelming in its ability to made a difference. I played each of the support classes and did not really connect with any, they sort of did their job but felt underwhelming to play and unable to keep up with the damage that was being thrown out. For me the game feels stilted and often given that actions come before moves there is a medium amount of tactics and what feels like a larger amount luck to make your actions land. After several days of playing I am still on the fence about how successful they have made the transition from action to turn based.

It has also been a free open beta for Atlas Reactor the game from Trion which is a turn based moba. As arms I feel like a slower version of my guardian druid and the druid itself is about as slow as I can cope with. Whether you want to play as a courageous adventurer, or you want to experience the tranquil rural lifestyles, growing plants, and feeding animals with your friends in the Homeland, you can find it all. I have to say that warriors feel slow and disconnected atm from my limited play. Dragon and Home is a sandbox MMORPG where players can choose freely how they desire to play. Games wise I discovered my original Word of Warcraft toon – a 70 warrior was on the server I am playing on so I undeleted him and dusted him off. I managed to complete the dragon i was working on and even did a quick painting of my city at dawn – the original photo I based on one from my brothers collection.Īside from painting I have been pottering away at my book some more and almost reached 70k now.
